Burlington, IA (June 29, 2006) "" The Kansas City Royals have added RHP Mario Santiago to the Burlington Bees active roster. Santiago joins the Bees from the Arizona Rookie Royals where he made one start. He pitched four shutout innings and allowed four hits and struck out four. He will be in uniform tonight when the Bees start a four-game series at O'Brien Field in Peoria at 7:00.

The Royals signed Santiago as a non-drafted free agent on June 27th last year. Santiago hails from Salinas, Puerto Rico, but pitched two seasons of junior college baseball in the United States. Santiago was a teammate of Bees OF Ethien Santana at Laredo (TX) Community College and also pitched at Baton Rouge CC in Louisiana. Santiago made his pro debut in Arizona last year and allowed four runs on six hits in two innings before moving up to Idaho Falls in the Pioneer League. He made ten appearances (eight starts) for the Chukars and was 0-3 with a 6.61 ERA. IN 32.2 innings, he allowed 39 hits and 34 runs (24 earned) while walking 20 and striking out 20.

The Bees active roster is now at 24 players.
