Beavers maximize effort in win over Tacoma

PORTLAND, Ore. - Justin Germano worked seven innings for his sixth win and Adam Hyzdu drove in two runs as the Portland Beavers defeated the Tacoma Rainiers 3-2 in front of 5,093 at PGE Park Wednesday afternoon.

Dustin Delucchi had a double, two walks and two runs scored, while Brad Baker earned his 24th save for the Beavers (42-44).

The Beavers managed the victory despite getting out-hit, 10-4.

The teams took turns plating single runs before Portland wrestled away the lead in the sixth, going up 3-1 on an RBI triple by Jon Knott and Hyzdu's second RBI single of the game.

Earlier, Delucchi logged his third straight extra-base hit of the series, doubling to start the fourth. With two outs in the inning, Hyzdu's single to center was enough to score Delucchi.

Ramon Santiago tied it in the fifth with a solo home run off Germano, Santiago's sixth blast of the year.

Germano (6-6) gave up a run on seven hits and has a win to show for six of his last eight decisions after starting the year 0-4.

Tacoma starter Damian Moss (6-6) gave up all three runs on four hits in six innings of work for the loss.

The Rainiers (49-36) got to reliever Marty McLeary for a run in the eighth on Hunter Brown's two-out RBI single.

Each batter in Tacoma's lineup had one hit, including Justin Leone, who came on in the seventh inning when shortstop Yuniesky Betancourt was taken out after being struck by a Germano pitch.

The Beavers conclude their series with Tacoma Thursday night before starting a three-game set with Las Vegas at PGE Park on Friday.

NOTES: Going back to the series opener, Delucchi hit for the cycle, singling on Monday, logging a home run and a triple on Tuesday, and completing things with his double on Wednesday. Delucchi has reached base in 10 of his last 11 games ... Portland catcher Lee Evans was 0-for-3 on Wednesday and is hitless in his last 22 at-bats ... Tacoma had won each of the previous seven games with Portland this year.
