Prieto's homer lifts Stingers over Sidewinders

Chris Prieto connected for a two-run homer in the seventh inning Wednesday night lifting Salt Lake to a 7-5 win over Tucson at Franklin Covey Field. The win allowed the Stingers take a two games to one advantage in the series.
Tucson plated two early runs off Clayton Andrew in the first inning. Andy Green led off the game with a single and scored on a Scott Hairston triple. Hairston later scored on a sacrifice fly from Conor Jackson.
The lead didn't last long as the Stingers responded with three runs in the bottom of the first against Tucson starter Edgar Gonzalez. Salt Lake scored the three runs on one single, two walks and a wild pitch.
The Stingers added a run in the second to push the lead to 4-2.
Andy Green answered with a solo home run in the top of the third. The homer was Green's 11th a year, marking a new career high.
Tucson battled back to tie the game at 4 in the top of the sixth when Sergio Santos drew a two out walk from Andrews and came around to score on a double from Josh Kroeger.
The Sidewinders took the lead in the top of the seventh when Juan Brito singled and eventually scored when Matt Kata hit into a double play.
Casey Smith ripped a one-out single in the seventh inning off reliever Kerry Ligtenberg before Prieto's homer gave the Stingers a 6-5 lead.
The Stingers added an insurance run in the eighth for the final margin. Dusty Bergman earned the win in relief. Greg Jones threw a perfect ninth for the save.
Green, Hairston, Kroeger and Brito all finished with two hits in the loss.
Tucson dropped to 42-45. The Sidewinders and Stingers finish the four-game series Thursday night with a 6:00 p.m. (Tucson time) game. Jon Cannon (2-4 4.28) will start for Tucson against Salt Lake's Scott Schneider (1-1 6.39). The game will air live on Cool 1450 AM.
