Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
TONIGHT: The Royals and Redbirds meet in game 3 of their 4-game series at AutoZone Park in Memphis. The Redbirds lead the series 2-0. Air-time is 6:45 on Magic 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com.
LAST NIGHT: Memphis scored eight runs in the first two innings off Danny Tamayo (4-6) and then held on for a 9-7 win. With the scored tied 2-2 entering the bottom of the 2nd, Brandon Berger hit a leadoff home run. Later in the frame, John Rodriguez belted a grand slam and Scott Seabol followed with a solo shot to cap the six-run outburst. Trailing 9-2 after seven, the Royals scored five runs off Randy Flores in the 8th, the final two scoring on a Cory Aldridge home run. Tyler Johnson pitched a scoreless 9th inning to notch his second save. Rodriguez wound up with five RBI on the night.
ROYALS REPORT: The Royals have lost seven of their last eight games, including four in a row on the road to put the club at .500 (25-25) away from Omaha. *** The Redbirds last night became the first opposing club to blast three homers in one inning since July 1, 2001. In that contest, Ryan Thompson, Ramon Castro and Chad Mottola all went deep in the 5th inning of Omaha's 14-4 loss at Calgary. *** Tamayo's ERA jumped from 5.12 to 5.79 last night. The ERA for the club's starters, who are now 18-33, rose from 5.20 to 5.35. The Royals bullpen is 21-14 with a 4.22 ERA and 21 saves in 29 chances. *** Aaron Guiel hit his team-leading 18th home run last night off Memphis lefty Bill Pulsipher, giving the Royals a short-lived 2-0 lead after a half inning. On the season, the left-handed hitting Guiel has a better average against lefties than righties (.278 to .251) and is homering at about the same clip (1 HR per 18.0 AB's vs. lefties; 1 HR per 17.6 AB's vs. righties). *** Jeremy Affeldt made the fourth appearance of his current rehab assignment last night, giving up a run on two hits in the 6th inning. *** Adrian Brown recorded his 20th two-hit game of the season last night (to go along with 5 three-hit and 1 four-hit contests). The PCL All-Star has hit in four straight games (.412, 7-17). *** Matt Ford, the first of four relievers used last night, fired 3.0 hitless innings. After giving up one run in one inning on June 17th in his first appearance for Omaha, Ford has pitched 7.2 scoreless stanzas over his last six games. *** Chris Truby is hitting .313 (10-32) with two homers and five RBI in his last ten tilts.
STARTERS: RH Kyle Snyder (0-1, 1.61) vs. RH Chris Gissell (6-5, 2.85) Snyder makes his 5th rehab assignment start. The 27-year old right-hander's last start was last Friday vs. Albuquerque, when he took the loss in a 3-1 defeat (5.0 IP, 6 H, 2 R-1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K). In his four rehab starts, Snyder is 0-1 with a 1.84 ERA. Snyder began the season in Omaha's bullpen, making three relief appearances (0-0, 1.17) before being called up by KC on April 16. He was 0-0 with a 4.15 ERA in six relief outings for KC. He missed all of the 2004 season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. When Snyder is recovered from this latest shoulder ailment, KC plans to put him in the starting rotation. KC selected Snyder in the 1st round (7th overall) of the 1999 draft out of the University of North Carolina.
PROBABLES FOR REMAINDER OF SERIES: Thur., 7:05: LH Chris George (6-5, 4.65) vs. RH Adam Wainwright (6-6, 3.40)
