Beaupit Leads Chiefs to 3-0 Victory with First Shutout of the Season

Kennewick, Wash. - Mason Beaupit stopped every puck shot his way as the Chiefs skated to a 3-0 victory over the rival Tri-City Americans on Friday night. With the win, Beaupit notches his first WHL career shutout.

After a scoreless first period, three different Chiefs found the back of the net in the final 40 minutes of the game. Spokane found its lead starting within the first minute of the second period, when team captain Jack Finley passed the puck to defenseman Raegan Wiles up the middle, who fired it at the goal and Bear Hughes tipped it in to score. The Chiefs then shut down two Tri-City power plays and held onto the 1-0 lead into the final frame.

At 7:43 in the third, Finley netted a goal of his own off of a beautiful rebound after a shot from Luke Toporowski. The captain finished his two-point night with first star honors.

A gritty Chiefs power play 13 minutes into the third period ended with Yannick Proske connecting to Mac Gross near the center of the blue line, where Gross sealed the deal with a rocket into the net through traffic.

Beaupit's perfect 18 saves on the night marked his first career WHL shutout and earned him second star honors. The Chiefs outshot the Americans in every period, 33-18 overall. Spokane's special teams also shined, going 2-for-5 on the power play and 4-for-4 on the penalty kill. Related Links

Reed Jacobson went down with a leg injury late in the third period, after wrestling for the puck with Tri-City rookie forward Drew Freer. He appeared to be conscious and alert, but was carried off the ice on a stretcher.

The Chiefs will continue their road trip on Tuesday when they travel to Seattle to take on the Thunderbirds for the second time this season.
