Pats Face ICE for Third Time in 10 Days

Regina, Sask. - The Regina Pats (2-4-0) get another crack at the Winnipeg Ice (5-0-0) on Saturday night, when they travel to Wayne Fleming Arena for a 7 p.m. puck drop (Regina time).

This will mark the third meeting between the two teams in a span of 10 days, with the ICE taking the first two meetings: 5-2 last Wednesday and 4-2 last night. In Friday's contest, Winnipeg got out to a 2-0 lead early in the first period, but the Pats answered, coming back from their largest deficit of the season. Borya Valis scored his first career WHL goal in the first period to make it a one-goal game and Cole Carrier scored his second in as many games to tie it in the second period. Skyler Bruce scored the eventual game-winning-goal early in the third on the power play.

The Pats allowed a season-low 20 shots against in the loss. They are now 2-2 when recording more shots than their opponent, while having outshot opponents 186-167 through six games this season.

THE ICE

The Winnipeg ICE finished fourth in the Week 2 CHL Top-10 Rankings and currently hold the WHL's best record, along with a +27 goal differential (34 GF/7 GA). Benjamin Zloty leads all defencemen in points with eight, while also leading in assists with seven.  Owen Pederson ranks second amongst skaters in points with 10 (5G-5A) while Mikey Milne and Matthew Savoie are tied for third in scoring with nine points. The ICE are one of three undefeated clubs in the WHL and hold the WHL's second best power play, running at 40.2% with a league best nine power play goals.

The Last time the ICE opened their regular season without a regulation loss was back in the 2004-05 season when they began the year 4-0-1 as the Kootenay ICE.

The Pats are 39-44-2-5-5 vs. the Winnipeg/Kootenay ICE, all-time and are 0-9-1-1 against the ICE since the move to Winnipeg prior to the 2019-20 season.

HEADLINES

Number of points (1G-5A) for Regina Pats defenceman Ryker Evans is tied for second amongst defenceman in in the WHL, while his five assists ranks tied for third. The Calgary, AB, native was drafted in the second round by the Seattle Kraken in the 2021 NHL Draft.

Five consecutive games with a point (1G-tA) for Pats forward Cole Dubinsky is the longest point-streak by a Pat' this season. The Ardrossan, AB,

native scored his first of the season on Sunday. Four of his six points this season have come on the power play (1PPG-3PPA).

The Pats own the WHL's fifth-best power play, running at 26.9%. They are 7-for-21 on the man advantage over their last four games (33.3%). On the flip side, the Pats have scored just nine five-on-five goals this season. Their two five-on-five goals last night were the most since the home opener.

26: the number of times short-handed for the Pats ranks fourth in the WHL behind the Spokane, Prince Albert and Red Deer and second amongst Eastern Conference teams. The Pats have also gone on the power play 26 times this season, which is second most in the WHL.

Four straight losses for the Regina Pats is the longest losing-streak since February 17 - 22 of the 2019-20 season. During the Hub last season, the Pats never lost more than three straight games. Over their losing-streak, the Pats have been outscored 16-to-8 for a -8 goal differential.
