Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
Fort Worth - Austin Ice Bats goaltender Miguel Beaudry continued his mastery over the Fort Worth Brahmas on Thursday night, making 24 saves on 25 Fort Worth shots to lead the Ice Bats to a 2-1 win over the Brahmas at the Fort Worth Convention Center.
Beaudry has now beaten the Brahmas five times this season. He helped Memphis to two wins over Fort Worth in mid-November. A trade between the RiverKings and the Ice Bats on December 16 sent Beaudry to Austin. Tonight's one goal victory was Beaudry's third win over the Brahmas while wearing an Ice Bats uniform.
Beaudry started strong in the game, stopping all seven Brahmas shots sent his way in the first period of play. He was rewarded with a one-goal lead, as Austin forward Julian Smith converted on a two-on-one poweplay rush at the 15:18 mark of the first period.
The Brahmas were finally able to get a shot past Beaudry midway through the second period. Brahmas rookie forward Mike O'Sullivan snuck a shot through Beaudry's legs from the right wing side for a powerplay goal that tied the contest at one.
The game would remain deadlocked until the 9:32 mark of the third period when Ice Bats defenseman Julius Halfkenny blasted a shot from the right point through heavy traffic that snuck past Fort Worth netminder Larry Sterling. Halfkenny's goal, his third of the season, proved to be the game winning marker, as Beaudry stopped all 9 Fort Worth shots he faced in the final period.
Despite playing well, Sterling took the loss in goal for Fort Worth, allowing the two Austin goals on 28 shots.
The loss for the Brahmas puts puts their record at 13-23-5 for the season. Austin's win, their CHL best eighth in a row, gives the Ice Bats a 20-18-3 record on the year. The Brahmas and the Bats will meet again at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night, Feb. 3, at the Travis County Expo Center in Austin. Brahmas fans can listen to the game live on KHFX Fox Sports 1460 AM beginning at 7:15 p.m. Fort Worth will then wrap up a busy weekend with a home game at the Convention Center on Saturday night, Feb. 4, at 7:30 p.m. versus the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. Saturday night's game will feature the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders performing on the ice during both the first and second intermissions.
