Fort Worth Brahmas News Release

Austin, Texas - Austin Ice Bats defenseman Darryl McArthur scored a powerplay goal 3:49 into overtime to give the Ice Bats come from behind 4-3 win over the Fort Worth Brahmas on Friday night at the Travis County Expo Center in Austin.

McArthur's game-winning goal came off a face-off win from Austin forward Jeff Neufeld. From the right wing face-off circle, Neufeld pulled the puck back to McArthur. The Ice Bats team captain walked to the high slot and blasted a shot that beat Brahmas netminder Andrew Martin clean to the stick side.

McArthur's overtime heroics were made possible by a late game rally by the Ice Bats. Fort Worth appeared to be in position for the road win when Brahmas rookie forward Matt Reynolds scored at the 5:46 mark of the third to give the Brahmas a 3-1 lead. Austin, however, refused to wilt. The Bats pulled to within 3-2 on forward Dan Carney's even strength goal with 6:00 left in the game. Then, with just 44 seconds left in regulation, and with goaltender Matt Barnes on the bench for an extra attacker, Austin tied the game at three on a powerplay goal from defenseman Jonathan Jolette.

Fort Worth left wing Wes Mason scored two goals in the game for the Brahmas, while Austin also received a goal in the contest from forward Mike Tucciarone.

Martin, making his first start of the season for Fort Worth, took the overtime loss in net for the Brahmas. The rookie from R.P.I. allowed the four Bats goals on 43 shots. Barnes earned the win for the Ice Bats, stopping 28 of the 31 Brahmas shots he faced.

The overtime loss gives Fort Worth a 13-23-6 record on the season. The win for Austin, their ninth in a row, leaves the Bats record at 21-18-3. Fort Worth will be back in action on Saturday night, February 4, at the Fort Worth Convention Center versus the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs. Face off for Saturday's game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders will be at the game, performing live during both the first and second intermissions.
