Youngstown SteelHounds News Release
Youngstown, OH. - The Youngstown SteelHounds (15-24-2) haven't found a way to solve the Memphis RiverKings (17-21-2) or goaltender Michael Dilorenzo who both are 4-0 versus the Hounds this season. Don Parsons scored his fourth hat trick of the season and 36th as a professional as the RiverKings handed the Hounds their fourth straight loss en route to a 5-3 victory. Jeff Christian tallied his league-leading 37th goal in the losing effort.
Youngstown had a lot of jump in the opening period pressuring the RiverKings early in the period and using that pressure to create a great scoring chance with Jeff Chirstian finding defenseman Kelly Sickavish at the top of the left circle. For Sickavish, the wrister found the back of the net giving him his first professional goal in his 88th professional game, assisted by Christian and Ben Manny. Just past the midway point in the period. Mario Chinelli and Darryl Lloyd were called for back-to-back penalties giving the Kings 1:10 of a two-man advantage. The Hounds killed the 5-on-3 but just seconds after Chinelli had been released from the box Derek Landmesser found Don Parsons who found the back of the net for the 22nd time this season tying the game at one goal apiece. The assist for Landmesser was his 10th point (3-7=10) in his 10th period (three + games) versus Youngstown.
In the second period, the Hounds regained the lead on a pretty move by Christian who undressed Michael Dilorenzo for his league-leading 37th goal of the season assisted by Chris Richards and newcomer Joey Sewell at the 6:45 mark. The goal came with an extra skater on a delayed penalty call. In what has to be the fastest consecutive goal in CHL history, Memphis tied the game just six seconds later with Paul McBrien scoring his second goal of the season assisted by former SteelHound Rob Ouimette at the 6:52 mark. Memphis would take their first lead of the game at the 8:14 mark with a great effort by Parsons scoring his second goal of the game and 23rd of the season warding off a defender on his left side and using one hand on the stick forcing a shot over David St. Germain at the 8:14 mark. The Hounds outshot the Kings 13-12 in the period but trailed in the game 24-23.
The SteelHounds mounted a late charge outshooting the Kings 10-5 in the final period. Youngstown cut the score to 4-3 with a power play goal by Mario Chinelli, his first with the Hounds and seventh of the season overall, assisted by Jonathan Gagnon and Sam Miller at the 14:54 mark but once again Memphis gained momentum with Ryan Watson scoring off a rebound from a Parson's shot scoring his 14th goal of the season at the 18:03 mark. Youngstown outshot the Kings 10-5 in the final period and 33-29 in the game.
Michael Dilorenzo made 30 saves earning his fourth victory in four chances in the Chevrolet Centre this season and David St. Germain falls to 11-18-2 making 24 saves in the loss.
The teams will finish the three-game series tomorrow night at the Chevrolet Centre with face-off scheduled for 7:05 PM.
