Beast to Play ECHL Game on Painted Ice
April 12, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Brampton Beast News Release
BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton Beast's inaugural Stick It To Cancer walk and postgame ice painting was a rousing success on Saturday, as the Beast raised over $4,100 for Wellspring-Chinguacousy, a cancer support centre located in a residential neighborhood in Brampton.
For the first time in Canada, fans painted the ice in memory of lost loved ones and those fighting a battle against cancer in a show of support and solidarity with victims and their families. The ice will remain painted with these messages for tomorrow's Fan Appreciation Game, the Beast's final game of the season.
The day began at 3:00 pm as groups and teams from across the region registered for the walk around the Powerade Centre and surrounding grounds, and participated in a variety of activities from balloon popping to Zumba. Brampton Mayor Linda Jeffrey and Councillor Gael Miles were both in attendance, as awards were given for the highest-fundraising individual in both male and female categories, and to the highest fundraising and best costumed teams.
After a dramatic 1-0 overtime victory over their division rivals the Missouri Mavericks, fans took to the ice in groups to paint messages of love and support in preparation for tomorrow's season finale.
The Beast will square off against the Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins ECHL affiliate the Wheeling Nailers at 2:00 pm on Jersey Off Our Backs Day at the Powerade Centre. After the game, players will present their jerseys to winning fans in attendance at centre ice, before the Beast postgame party kicks off with their final post-game skate of the season.
