Beast Drop Close One to Conference-Leading Everblades

ESTERO, FLORIDA - The Brampton Beast outplayed and outshot the second-best team in the ECHL in the Florida Everblades but goaltender Anthony Peters was the difference as he made 36 saves as the Everblades edged the Beast 4-2 at Germain Arena on Wednesday night.
Chris Auger and Tim Bozon lit the lamp for the Beast, while Corey Cowick netted a pair of goals and Maxime St. Cyr and Justin Agosta added singles for Florida.
The Beast took the energy out of the building early in the contest as Auger deflected home a Travis Brown point shot from the high slot for a power play goal just 2:22 into the game. Auger's goal was his team-leading fourteenth of the season.
The Everblades stormed back and held a 2-1 lead after the opening 20 minutes.
St. Cyr found himself in alone on a breakaway against Beast starter Trevor Cann and beat the goaltender just under six minutes into the first. Cowick responded with his first of the night at 12:53 to complete the first period scoring.
The Beast poured on the pressure in the second frame and outshot the Everblades 17-8 but it was Florida who notched the first goal of the period.
Cowick earned his second of the night near the halfway point of the second frame but the Beast's persistence paid off at the 16:29 mark of the period.
Tim Bozon caught the goaltender off guard as he followed up on a seemingly harmless play and stole the puck from Peters and slid the puck into the open net for his first pro goal.
The Beast outshot the Everblades again in the third period, this time by a count of 12-7 but again, it was the Everblades who were able to capitalize.
Justin Agosta scored on a two-on-one at the 8:37 mark to give the Everblades a late two-goal lead.
The Beast upped the pressure and pulled the goalie in the dying minutes of the game but the Everblades defense stood tall and kept the Beast at bay for the remainder of the game to seal the victory.
Trevor Cann made 18 saves between the pipes for the Beast, while Peters was the busier of the two goaltenders and made 36 saves.
Notes: The Beast had a successful night on special teams, going 1-for-2 with the man advantage and assembling a perfect penalty kill, finishing the game 4-for-4.
The Beast and the Everblades are back in action again on Friday, January 15 at Germain Arena at 7:30 PM. The Beast return home on January 31 as they host the Wheeling Nailers.
