Jackals Sign Defenseman Ian Young; Claim Goaltender Alex Vazzano

ELMIRA, NY - The Elmira Jackals, ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres and AHL's Rochester Americans, announced today that the team has signed rookie defenseman Ian Young to a Standard Player Contract. Additionally, the club announced today they have claimed rookie goaltender Alex Vazzano off waivers from the Cincinnati Cyclones.

Young, 23, joins the Jackals from Mississippi where he began his professional career with the RiverKings in the SPHL. The 6-foot-1 200-pound defenseman recorded 11 assists and a +3 rating in 23 games with Mississippi. Prior to turning pro, the Red Deer, Alta. native appeared in 114 NCAA games for Colorado College registering 19 points (four goals, 15 assists) over the course of four seasons.

Vazzano, 25, has appeared in seven career ECHL games with his most recent action coming on November 20th as a member of the Reading Royals, stopping all six shots faced in relief duty against the Jackals. Vazzano also has appeared this season with the Louisiana IceGators of the SPHL and the Danbury Titans of the FHL. The 6-foot-2 200-pounder netminder backstopped the Evansville Icemen in six games last season following the conclusion of his collegiate career at Sacred Heart University. Prior to turning pro, the Trumbull, Conn. native split his collegiate career between the University of Vermont and Sacred Heart University.
