
Beast Down Monarchs in Shootout to Open 2018-19 Season

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Nathan Todd had three points and scored the shootout winner as the Brampton Beast defeated the Manchester Monarchs 6-5 on Saturday night.
The Monarchs struck first on opening night with a goal from forward Zeb Knutson at 5:04 of the first period.
Brampton fought back and was able to even up the score off the stick of Erik Bradford. Brandon MacLean dug the puck out of a crowd and fired a pass to Macoy Erkamps at the point. The blueliner sent a shot on Monarchs goaltender Charles Williams that was slid into the net by Bradford at 9:43 of the first.
Manchester continued their first period assault with goals from Ryan Kujawinski and Sam Kurker at 15:51 and 18:53 respectively. Brampton would head into the first intermission down by a score of 3-1 but outshooting their opponents by a 15-13 count.
The Monarchs added to their lead to start the third period. Tony Cameranesi broke in alone and roofed a shot over the shoulder of Beast starter Jake Paterson for a 4-1 lead at 6:20.
The Beast didn't give up and fought back with a goal from Jordan Henry. The big defenseman was able to stuff home the rebound off the shot from Jackson Leef. That made it 4-2 at 9:19.
Brampton continued to chip away at the Manchester lead with a goal from Jonathan Racine. The defenseman took the pass, settled the puck and fired a bomb of a shot that eluded Williams. That made it a one-goal game at 11:46.
Brampton would head into the second intermission down 4-3 and trailing in shots by a count of 29-22.
Brampton started the third period off with a bang courtesy of Nathan Todd. With a delayed penalty about the happen, Todd snuck into the slot and sent a perfect wrist shot past Williams at 5:25.
The Monarchs would then score another, courtesy of Spencer Watson. The craft forward snuck one late on the power play at 17:30.
With Paterson pulled in favour of an extra attacker, David Pacan was able to shovel home a rebound to tie the game up 5-5 at 18:34.
Overtime solved nothing so a shootout was needed. It took more than a few shooters, but Todd had the eventual winner as the Beast downed the Monarchs by a score of 6-5.
Notes: Molson Three Stars: 3) Cameranesi (MAN) 2) Bradford (BRA) 1) Todd (BRA) Jake Paterson made 43 saves in the Beast win. Brampton takes on Manchester again on Sunday, October 14th at 2 PM. It's the second game of a back-to-back for both teams.
