Kansas City, Missouri - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the Minnesota Wild, dropped a 5-1 decision to Kansas City on Friday night in their season opener.
Casey Pierro-Zabotel had the only Americans goal, his first of the season from Alex Breton and Thomas Frazee in the opening period. Kansas City outscored the Americans 3-0 in the second period while outshooting Allen 21 to 8 in the second frame to grab a 4-1 lead.
CJ Motte got the start and took the loss for Allen. He faced 43 shots and made 38 saves. Americans defenseman Mike Gunn left the game in the second period with an upper body injury. He's listed as day to day.
"We were sloppy in the second period and it cost us the game," said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson. "Not enough of our players were working hard enough."
The Americans play the second of a two-game road trip on Saturday night in Wichita. The Thunder are coming off a shootout win over Idaho on Friday night.
The Americans home opener is on Saturday, October 20th against Wichita, on Pink in the Rink night in Allen. Tickets are on sale NOW at Allen Event Center Box Office or online at www.allenamericans.com.
