HERSHEY completed a four-game homestand Thursday night by defeating the Springfield Falcons 4-3 at Giant Center. The win pulled the BEARS into a second place tie with the Norfolk Admirals, with a better winning percentage and two games in hand.
Andrew Gordon opened the scoring Thursday with his 21st goal of the season, taking a pass from Keith Aucoin at the 6:16 mark of the first period. Sean Collins then powered a shot past Springfield goaltender David LeNeveu at 16:39 to give the home team a 2-1 lead. Before the end of the frame, Springfield would get a goal back with a shot from David Savard that deflected en route to Dany Sabourin. The goal at 18:48 made the score 2-1 after one.
Brian Willsie scored the only goal of the second period, a power play marker at 8:00 to give the BEARS a 3-1 advantage. Springfield again closed within a goal in the third period when John Moore scored his third of the season at 10:38, but Steve Pinizzotto scored his 11th goal at 11:11 of the third just seconds later to restore the two-goal advantage. Pinizzotto's goal proved to be the game winner when former BEARS centerman Kyle Wilson scored his second goal of the season at 19:42. Sabourin won his fourth straight home start, and his 14th overall. The BEARS now head to Binghamton Friday to play the Senators at 7:05 p.m.
