Hershey Bears News Release
Last Week: The Bears played the first four games of a season high 6 game road trip, dropping the first game at Milwaukee Wednesday night 4-1. Cail MacLean scored the lone Bears goal in the loss. HERSHEY then defeated the Cleveland Barons at Gund Arena in Cleveland 5-3. Steve Brule recorded a hat trick while Bruce Richardson picked up a goal and an assist in the victory. Saturday night the Bears tied the defending Calder Cup Champions 2-2 at Allstate Arena. Cail MacLean scored the game tying goal late in the third period to earn the standings point. Sunday found the Bears in Grand Rapids, and HERSHEY dropped a 2-0 decision to the top team in the Western Conference.
Notables: The hat trick for Brule on Friday was his first as a Bear, and also the first three goal game for a HERSHEY player this season. Phil Sauve's next win will set a new career high for victories. Sauve won his 25th game of the season on Friday night in Cleveland. The Bears head to Norfolk four points out of first place in the South Division standings. A win for the Admirals Wednesday would clinch the title for Norfolk, while a win for the Bears would move HERSHEY to within two points of first with three games remaining. Norfolk finishes the season with two games against the Bears, and two games at First Union Arena against Wilkes Barre/Scranton. HERSHEY is trying this week to win it's first division title since 1994.
Colorado Update: The Avalanche wrap up the regular season this week with three games. Wednesday night, the Avs will be at Los Angeles to take on the Kings at Staples Center. Colorado then continues it's southern California road trip with a game at Anaheim Friday night against the Mighty Ducks. The 2002-2003 regular season concludes on Sunday afternoon with a game at the Pepsi Center in Denver against the St. Louis Blues.
