TRAVERSE CITY, MI, June 23, 2006: The Traverse City Beach Bums announced that they have traded former Frontier League Rookie of the Year Kevin White to the Gary SouthShore RailCats of the Northern League in exchange for veteran infielder Brad Vericker.

"It's tough to let go of someone who has proven himself the way that Kevin has in the past," said Beach Bums manager, Jeff Isom. "We gave him every opportunity, unfortunately it just didn't work out here."

Vericker comes to the Beach Bums after spending three years in the Giants system. Vericker has spent two stints at AA, having accumulated 126 at-bats at the third highest level of American baseball, including batting .280 last season with the AA Norwich Navigators (Eastern League). His best season was in 2004 with the San Jose Giants (California League - A+) where he hit .277 with 14 homers and 76 RBI. He also clubbed 29 doubles that season for the Giants and legged out three triples. In 2003 with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (Northwest League - Short Season A), he led the league with 15 homers and a .547 slugging percentage.

White had been a strong performer over the past two seasons, winning the Frontier League Rookie of the Year award in 2004 and hitting 20 homeruns with 72 RBI last season. He had struggled this year, though, hitting .240 with only one homer and seven RBI in 26 games.

"We think this is a trade that will work out well for both teams," said Isom, "Vericker is a player who has a lot of experience and good power potential."

The Beach Bums are set for a promotion packed weekend series against the Florence Freedom. Friday is Grand Traverse Pavilions Grandparents Night, featuring a Beach Bums visor giveaway, Baseball Bingo and a spectacular post-game fireworks show. On Saturday, Traverse City State Bank will give away souvenir Beach Bums jerseys (children's sizes) to the first 500 fans, and Sunday is Team Elmer's Get a Load of This! Night, featuring a sand toy giveaway for the first 400 kids. Saturday's game starts at 7:05, and Sunday is a 6:05 p.m. start.
