Grizzlies lose third straight

The Gateway Grizzlies (12-16) dropped their third straight game Friday night, falling to the Washington Wild Things (13-15) 5-2 in front of 4,257 at GCS Ballpark.

The Wild Things got to Grizzlies' starter Erik Dessau (3-1) with three runs in the first inning. Pat Peavy hit a two-out three-run home run to put Washington up 3-0.

Dessau went seven innings allowing a season-high four runs on six hits. He struck out three and walked three.

The Grizzlies cut the lead to 3-2 with their two runs in the third inning. Bobby Gilliam singled with one out before Greg Isaacson tripled high off the left field wall. Isaacson scored on a single by Johnson.

The Wild Things would add two more. Chris Sidick homered in the seventh off Dessau. Washington added their final run when a run scored on a balk by reliever Anthony Rebyanski.

Gary Gilbert was the only Grizzlies player with more than a single hit. Gilbert went 3-4 with two doubles and a single. Isaacson and Johnson were each 1-4 with RBIs.

The Grizzlies and the Wild Things continue the series with a 7:05 game Saturday night at GCS Ballpark.
