TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums suffered a 5-2 defeat at the hands of the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti at Wuerfel Park in the opener of a series on Monday night.

The Sliders got on the board first in the fourth inning. Lee Rubin doubled off the top of the center field wall to score Bryan Bonner from first with two outs. Midwest tacked on a four spot in the fifth to force Beach Bums starter Jason Kiley out of the contest. With the bases loaded Joash Brodin recorded an infield single to stretch the lead to 2-0. Robbie Knapp drove in a run with a ground out and Jeremy Jones singled home another. Jared Locke entered following a walk and allowed a sacrifice fly off the bat of Lee Rubin before escaping the inning trailing 5-0.

Traverse City was hitless entering the fifth. Sliders starter Jon Haldis, a former Beach Bum, left the game after just two innings but Adam Dominick picked up where he left off. Brian Lapin ended the perfect game with a two-out single in the fifth and scored on a triple by Robby Alcombrack to trim the lead to 5-1. Mike Epping added a solo homer leading off the ninth to cap the scoring.

Dominick earned the win for the Sliders, going the distance after entering in the third. He struck out seven in his seven innings of work. Jason Kiley took the loss for the Beach Bums, walking five in his 4.1 innings. Jared Locke threw 2.2 perfect frames and Nick Pepper closed the contest with a pair of scoreless innings. The Beach Bums were limited to just four hits in the contest coming from four different individuals.

The Beach Bums will continue the series with the Sliders at Wuerfel Park tomorrow night with a 7:05pm contest. For the games on Tuesday and Wednesday there will be a special discounted price of $5 per ticket for adults and $3 for kids aged 12 and under. RHP Kevin Reese (8-6, 4.78) is the scheduled starter for the Beach Bums against RHP Scott Van Es (0-0, 5.93) for the Sliders.
