Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
WASHINGTON, PA - The Traverse City Beach Bums(37-48), for the second straight game, got the tying run on base but fell short on the comeback, and Washington Wild Things(43-42) won, 3-2.
Washington got on the board in the first inning when Jimmy Yezzo drove in both Andrew Heck and Rick Rodriguez, after they both singled. Yezzo's two-run double made it a 2-0 game. From there, the game went scoreless until both teams traded runs in the seventh. Will Kengor led off with a triple, then scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by Steven Patterson. Washington responded when Heck grounded into a double play with the bases loaded, scoring Grant Fink. With two outs in the ninth, Kengor hit an opposite field solo homer, his seventh of the season, to pull the Bums within one. Patterson then singled but was stranded to end the game
Chase Cunningham fought through the first two innings, in which he walked three, then settled down to pick up the win to improve to 6-9. He went seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits, while striking out five. Tucker Simpson after giving up two in the first, regrouped for a solid outing, at one point retiring eleven in a row. He falls to 3-4 with a six inning effort allowing the two runs on four hits and two walks, and he fanned seven. Kolin Stanley nabbed the save for the second game in a row for his fourth. Although he struggled in the ninth, he wiggled through the last two innings.
