Otters Break Tie in 6th to Defeat CornBelters

EVANSVILLE, Ind.* - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, gave up a tiebreaking home run in the sixth inning and fell to the Evansville Otters 2-1 for their fourth straight loss on Wednesday night at Bosse Field.
The CornBelters struck first in the second inning as Nolan Meadows led off with a double and scored on two fielder's choices with the RBI going to Jacoby Middleton in his Normal debut.
The Otters countered in the fourth inning by also scoring a lead-off double, as Josh Allen came home on a fielder's choice and an RBI single by Chris Breen.
Evansville took a 2-1 lead when Chris Riopedre led off the sixth inning with a home run just to the left of the scoreboard in left field.
Matt Wivinis (3-0) worked six innings and took the win, giving up one earned run on four hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Max Homick (4-5) also worked six innings in the loss, giving up both earned runs on five hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Randy McCurry gave up a lead-off single in the ninth but struck out the side for his Frontier League-leading 22nd save.
The series concludes Thursday with a 6:35 p.m. first pitch at Bosse Field as Horacio Acosta (8-3, 3.60 ERA) starts on the hill for the CornBelters while the Otters plan to start J.R. Edwards (0-0, 0.00) in a match-up of right-handers. The game can be heard live on WJBC.com beginning at 6:20.
