
Beach Bums Drop See-Saw Battle with Otters

EVANSVILLE, IN - The Traverse City Beach Bums'(12-19) led the Evansville Otters(17-14) half-way through the game but allowed four in the bottom of the fifth to lose by a score of 5-3.
After a scoreless first inning, Joe Lytle singled for Evansville then scored on an error for a 1-0 Otters lead. Arby Fields led off the third with a single and then stole second. Isaac Benard and Will Kengor followed with back-to-back walks to load the bases. Alexis Rivera, two batter later, knocked a sacrifice fly to deep center field scoring Fields to pull within one. With Steve Lohr at the plate, Benard scored on a wild pitch, giving the Beach Bums a 2-1 lead.
With two outs in the fifth, Will Kengor blasted a solo homer to deep right-center field, his fourth long ball of the season, doubling the Traverse City advantage. In the bottom of the frame, Jeff Gardner walked with the bases loaded then Travis Harrison cleared the bases with a double, for the final score of the game.
Tyler Vail was given the win as he survived five innings, allowing three runs on three hits and six walks. He improves to 1-2. Reinaldo Lopez is dealt the loss to drop to 1-3. He went six innings, giving up five runs, four earned, on seven hits and three walks. Mitchell Aker hurled a perfect ninth for his 12th save of the season.
On Sunday afternoon, the Beach Bums and Evansville Otters finish off this weekend's three game series. Luc Rennie starts for Evansville while John Havird gets the call for the Beach Bums. First pitch is scheduled for 2:05pm and Tom Willms will have the call, starting with the Budweiser pregame show, at 1:45pm. It will be two seven-inning games.
