Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich.-The Traverse City Beach Bums have added another arm to their 2009 spring training roster in hard-throwing right-hander Greg Ford who was signed today.
"Greg gives us another hard-throwing right-hander in camp to compete for a job in our bullpen," director of baseball operations Jason Wuerfel said. "He has the ability to run his fastball up in the low 90s and we believe he could be very effective in the Frontier League."
Hailing from Nashua, N.H., Ford pitched in four games last season for his hometown team, the Nashua Pride of the Can-Am League, throwing 3.1 innings and striking out three. He also recorded two at bats and scored a run.
Ford was the 2008 Little East Conference Tournament's Most Outstanding Player at Keene State College, helping to lead the Owls to a conference title as a dual threat, contributing both as an outfielder and a reliever. He appeared in 14 games on the mound, posting a 3.18 ERA in 17 innings with a 1-1 record and six saves. At the plate, Ford hit .333 and led the team in RBI with 58 and tied for the lead in homers with 13.
"Greg was dominant at the college level and has experience pitching in late game situations," Wuerfel continued. "We are excited to get him into camp and see what he can do."
The Beach Bums open their 2009 home slate against the Southern Illinois Miners on Tuesday, May 26 with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Wuerfel Park.
