
5K Home Run Challenge Set For May 16

MARION, Ill. - The Southern Illinois Miners will host the second annual 5K Home Run Challenge on Saturday, May 16 at Rent One Park. The race is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. in the parking lot of Rent One Park and will conclude on the field at home plate.
Runners and walkers can register by downloading the registration form on the front page of the Miners website. Registration will also be available on the day of the race beginning at 6:30 a.m.
The cost is $20 for adults and includes a race T-shirt. Children under the age of 12 can run for free, but also have the option of purchasing a T-shirt for $15.
"This was a great event for everyone involved last year," Miners General Manager Tim Arseneau said. "I think we'll see even more 5K runners and families participating in the 5K walk this year."
Over 70 runners competed in last year's inaugural event.
The Miners will begin the 2009 season in Evansville on Friday, May 22. The home opener is scheduled for Friday, May 29 at 7:05 p.m. For the latest news and updates, visit
