Bowie, Md. - The Baysox (4-0) completed a four-game sweep of the Harrisburg Senators (0-4) to open the season with a 10-5 win Sunday afternoon. The Baysox offense was on fire throughout the series, scoring in the double-digits in two games and recording double-digit hits in the three of the four games. In total, the Baysox scored 35 runs in the first series of the season.

The 4-0 start is the best start to a season for the Baysox since the team began the 1997 season with five consecutive wins. The four-game series sweep is the first since July 11-14, 2013 when the team swept Richmond in a five-game home series.

Baysox third baseman Sharlon Schoop, who missed the entire 2013 season with an injury, has not missed a beat to start the 2014 season. In two games played, he is batting .857 (6-7) with two doubles and two runs scored. The older brother of Orioles infielder Jonathan Schoop is pleased with how quickly he has adjusted after the long injury break.

"It feels really good," Schoop said. "I'm pretty impressed I have been able to get six hits in my first two games after a year and a half, but I am just ready to play. I have been working hard in the cage to get my rhythm back and that has helped a lot."

The Senators took their first lead of the series in the top of the first inning with a two out rally against Baysox starter Zach Davies. Matt Skole drew a two-out walk and Justin Bloxom followed with an infield single. Jason Martinson then brought two runs home with a double to left-center field give Harrisburg the 2-0 lead.

The Harrisburg lead was short-lived as the Baysox came right back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to retake the lead. Facing Harrisburg starter Matt Purke, Buck Britton hit a leadoff single to center field and went to second base on a wild pitch. Niuman Romero moved Britton to third base with a single to center field where he scored on a Chih-Hsien Chiang single to left field. Dariel Alvarez brought home two more runs with a one-out double to center field and Garabez Rosa plated the final run of the inning with a single to shortstop.

The Bowie Bashers kept things moving with three more runs in the bottom of the second inning to make the lead 7-2. Leading off again in the second inning, Britton singled to right field and Romero followed with a walk. With one out, Christian Walker drove in two runs with a double to center field. Walker moved to third base on the play after a fielding error and later scored on a wild pitch for the final run of the inning.

Bowie added to the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning against Harrisburg reliever Colin Bates. With one out, Sharlon Schoop and Ronald Bermudez hit back-to-back doubles to make the score 8-2.

Harrisburg got a run back in the top of the seventh inning against Baysox reliever Fabio Castillo. Cutter Dykstra singled, Bloxom singled and Martinson drew a walk to load the bases with one out. Caleb Ramsey then singled to left field to bring in one run before Marcel Prado came in to pitch for Bowie. Prado was able to get out of the jam without allowing any more runs, keeping the score 8-3.

The Baysox cracked double-digit runs after scoring two more in the bottom of the seventh against Harrisburg reliever Gabriel Alfaro. Rosa drew a lead off walk and Schoop followed with a single to center field. Bermudez then doubled to center field to bring home Rosa and Schoop later scored on a Romero sacrifice fly to make the score 10-3.

Harrisburg scored two more runs in the top of the ninth against reliever Marcel Prado to make the score 10-5. Skole and Bloxom walked to start off the inning and advanced a base on a Martinson groundout. Skole scored on a passed ball and Bloxom came home on a sacrifice fly from Drew Vettleson for the final run of the game.

Making his Double-A debut, Davies pitched five innings and allowed two runs on five hits while striking out five and walking three in the win. Castillo pitched one and one-third innings and allowed one run on five hits while walking two and striking out one. Prado pitched the final two and two-thirds innings and allowed two unearned runs on one hits and two walks while striking out two and picking up a save.

Purke took the loss for Harrisburg, pitching three innings and allowing seven runs (six earned) on nine hits while striking out two and walking one.

LHP Jake Pettit takes the mound for the Baysox Monday as the team plays the first game in a three game series with the Richmond Flying Squirrels. He will be opposed by LHP Kelvin Marte.

The Baysox are home through Wednesday, April 9 for a seven game homestand. Promotional highlights include Mutt Monday, April 6 beginning at 6:35 p.m and the first Dollar Dog Night of the season Tuesday, April 7 beginning at 6:35 p.m.
