Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Fightin Phils second baseman Carlos Alonso hit a three-run home run in the top of the second inning to give the Fightins' an early 4-0 lead that would be enough for their second win. Perci Garner earned his first win as he pitched six solid innings and allowed three runs (two earned) while striking out six batters.
Reading came out of the gates swinging as they opened up the scoring in the bottom of the second inning. Brock Stassi and Matt Tolbert hit back-to-back singles off Sea Dogs starter Mike Augliera to begin the inning. Chris Serritella hit the third consecutive single of the inning to score Stassi and give the Fightins a 1-0 lead. After Edgar Duran hit a sacrifice bunt to move both runners over to second and third base, Carlos Alonso hit a three-run home run off Augliera to give the Fightin Phils a 4-0 lead.
Portland scored a run off Fightin Phils starter Perci Garner in the top of the third inning as Deven Marrero hit a RBI single to score Bo Greenwell and cut the Fightins lead to 4-1. The Sea Dogs added another run in the top of the fourth inning Matt Spring hit a RBI double off Garner to cut the Fightin Phils lead in half 4-2. Spring struck again in the top of the sixth inning off Garner as he hit a sacrifice fly to score Stefan Welch and bring the Sea Dogs within one run, 4-3.
Brody Colvin and Jay Johnson each pitched scoreless innings in relief for the Fightin Phils. Kenny Giles earned his second save of the season by striking out the side in the top of the ninth inning.
The Fightin Phils continue their home-stand on Monday evening as they welcome in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm at FirstEnergy Stadium.
