Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Altoona, PA - The Baysox left nine men on-base and saw two Altoona home runs provide the damage in a 4-2 loss Saturday night in Altoona. The defeat moves the Curve into a tie with the Baysox for first place in the Western Division.
Tied at 1-1 in the third inning, Altoona LF Jose Osuna hit a two-out, two-run home run to left-center field to put the Curve up 3-1. An inning later it was Curve 3B Edward Salcedo with a solo home run for a 4-1 lead.
The Baysox had their chances to rally. Bowie had three hits in the fifth inning but C David Freitas was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. In the sixth inning, there were two men on with nobody out but a strikeout and double play ball ended the frame. Bowie did get a run in the seventh on a two-out RBI-double from RF Quincy Latimore.
But it was not enough. The Baysox outhit Altoona 11-6 in the game but fell short. With the loss, Bowie has now dropped six of its last seven games. Bowie is still winless against Altoona in five tries this season. All five games have been at Peoples Natural Gas Field, home of the Curve.
The series continues Sunday, July 12th at 6:00 p.m. in Altoona as RHP Joe Gunkel looks to lift the Baysox. Coverage will begin 20-minutes prior on 1430-AM WNAV and 99.9 FM in the city of Annapolis.
Bowie returns home after the all-star break on Thursday, July 16th hosting the Washington Nationals affiliate, the Harrisburg Senators in a four-game series. Get tickets by calling 301-805-6000 or online at baysox.com.
