Baysox bullpen stands strong in 2nd straight win over Senators

(Bowie, MD) - Following a no-hit shutout win of Harrisburg in Friday's contest, the Baysox looked to win their second straight over Harrisburg. Baysox starting pitcher Oscar Alvarez didn't make it very far into the contest, lasting only 1.2 innings, giving up two runs on five walks. Alvarez then left the game following a walk to Brett Logan with shoulder stiffness. The Baysox bullpen had Alvarez's back the rest of the way giving up only four hits and one run the rest of the way, helping the Baysox to their second straight win, 4-3.

The Baysox trailed 2-0 heading into the top of the third, but quickly evened the score. Paco Figueroa tripled to right field, scoring both Ryan Hubele and Ruddy Yan, tying the game at, 2-2. With Figueroa's triple, Les Shaw from Waldorf, MD won $3,000 in the BB&T Bank Triple Play Contest Promotion. If the Baysox would have turned a triple play in the game, Shaw would have won the grand prize of $300,000. Shaw congratulated Figueroa following the game and was awarded a check for $3,000, courtesy of BB&T Bank.

Freddy Deza came into the game in relief of Alvarez and pitched 3.1 innings of shutout ball, surrendering only one two hits, while striking out three.

David Haehnel spelled Deza from the game and continued the bullpen dominance, pitching the sixth and seventh frames, giving up no hits, while striking out one, with no walks.

The Baysox took the lead in the bottom of the sixth, when Oscar Salazar came around to score on a Harrisburg force attempt error, putting the Baysox ahead, 3-2.

Bowie would stretch the lead to 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh, when Jeff Fiorentino hit an RBI single to left, scoring Luis Hernandez.

Sendy Rleal made his first appearance on the season for Bowie, coming into to close out the game in the eighth inning. Rleal sat the Senators side down in order in the eighth and stayed on for the save attempt in the ninth. Rleal then gave up a lead-off solo homer to Brandon Larson, getting the Senators to within one run at, 4-3. Rleal then yielded a single to Tony Blanco, bringing the winning run to the plate in the next at bat. But Rleal regained his composure, retiring the final two batters he faced, getting Dan DeMent to ground out ending the game, giving the Baysox a 4-3 win. Rleal, who is no stranger to the Baysox, played in 95 games for Bowie over the 2004 and 2005 seasons, picked up his first save of the season in the win. David Haehnel was credited with the win, his first of the season, moving to (1-0). Senators starter Mike Hinckley took the loss and dropped to (4-5) on the season. Jeff Fiorentino led all Baysox hitters going 2-for-3 on the evening, collecting an RBI.

The Baysox take on the Senators in the final game of their three game series tomorrow, RHP Beau Hale gets the start for Bowie, opposing RHP TJ Nall for Harrisburg. First pitch Sunday set for 2:05 pm. Sunday also marks the Baysox 2nd Annual "Pink In The Park" Day - A Women's Cancer Awareness event, Sponsored by Holy Cross Hospital. The first 1,000 women (ages 6 & up) will receive a free pink Baysox logo visor, Courtesy of Holy Cross Hospital. The Baysox players will also be wearing one-of-a-kind pink Baysox jerseys when they take the field. The jerseys will be auctioned during the game, with the auction winners taking the jerseys right off of the players backs following the game.
