Harrisburg Senators News Release
It was never a thought of organizers in 1987 when this thing started. The thought, raising one million dollars with the event. Well, 21 years later, the Harrisburg Senators/The Spot UCP Sports Memorabilia Auction reached that lofty goal.
With more than $56,000 raised Saturday at Commerce Bank Park, the auction surpassed $1,000,000 raised for United Cerebral Palsy of Central PA
Under sunny skies and warm temperatures the event saw close to 200 bidders and some 400-450 attended the event on and off during the day.
More than 170 items were auctioned off and a total of $52,725 was raised during the live portion of the event. The silent auction phase of this year's event, raised $7,500. Other donations pre-auction and during the event came to $4,000.
With the silent auction, in-kind donations and other associated events added in, the total for this year's event was $56,725. The overall total for the 21 years now stands at $1, 002,725.00
The top item from this year's auction was a Hall of Fame Baseball Collection in a pyramid display case. Included in the 25 baseballs were signed balls from Hank Aaron, Cal Ripken, Jr., Willie Mays and Brooks Robinson. The collection went for $2,600.
