New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - New Britain starter Kyle Waldrop entered Saturday night's game in search of his first Double-A win, but he will have to wait for another opportunity as the Rock Cats lost 8-5 to New Hampshire.
Waldrop (0-3) lasted just 4 2/3 innings, surrendering five runs on nine hits and struck out five. He allowed a run in each of the first three innings. David Smith's RBI single put the Fisher Cats on the board 1-0 in the first. Ryan Klosterman added an RBI single to right field that scored Dustin Majewski for a 2-0 advantage.
Garrett Guzman led off the bottom of the second inning with a solo shot to right field. Felix Molina added an RBI double to right field that scored Matthew Allegra to tie the game, 2-2.
The tie game was short-lived, as Majewski doubled to center to knock in Chip Cannon (2-4, 3 R, 3 RBI) for a 3-2 New Hampshire lead. In the sixth, the Fisher Cats took advantage of mental mistakes by the Rock Cats. Klosterman reached first base on a fielding error by Molina. Relief pitcher Danny Powers then hit John Schneider with a pitch. Manuel Mayorson (3-for-6) bunted Klosterman to third and reached first as Schneider was thrown out at second for the first out of the inning. Powers then attempted a pick-off, but threw the ball away and allowed Klosterman to score for a 6-2 lead.
The Rock Cats' Trevor Plouffe blasted a two-run homer over the left field wall in the seventh inning to close the gap to 6-4. Brock Peterson added a solo home run in to lead off the bottom of the eighth.
New Hampshire starter Russ Savickas (3-2) allowed eight hits and four runs in 6 2/3 innings. Lee Gronkiewicz notched his tenth save with 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief. For the Rock Cats, Brandon Roberts went 3-for-4 with a run scored.
