
Fisher Cats outslug Rock Cats, 8-5, Saturday night

New Britain, CT -Chip Cannon went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double and 3 RBI to power the New Hampshire Fisher Cats over the New Britain Rock Cats, 8-5, Saturday night at New Britain Stadium. Dustin Majewski added two hits, two RBI, two walks and a run scored.
New Hampshire (29-23) scored single runs in each of the first three innings against New Britain starter Kyle Waldrop (0-3) on an RBI single from David Smith (2-for-5, RBI), a run-scoring single by Ryan Klosterman (2-for-5, RBI, R) and an RBI double by Majewski (2-for-3, 2 RBI, R).
Cannon upped the lead to 5-2 with his eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot over the wall in right-centerfield off Waldrop in the top of the fifth inning. Klosterman scored an unearned run in the sixth inning, making the lead 6-2.
New Britain (26-23) cut the lead to 6-4 when Trevor Plouffe reached Russ Savickas for a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Brock Peterson hit a solo home run off Jean Machi in the eighth inning, trimming the lead to 6-5.
The Fisher Cats added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning on back-to-back doubles from Sergio Santos (1-for-3, 2B, R) and Cannon and an RBI single from Majewski.
New Britain had two runners on with one out in the ninth inning, but Lee Gronkiewicz induced a game-ending double-play grounder from Brian Buscher, the RELCO Enlightening Play of the Game. Gronkiewicz earned his 10th save in 11 chances.
Savickas (3-2) picked up the win, allowing four runs on eight hits in 6.2 innings. He walked two and did not record a strikeout.
The Fisher Cats and Rock Cats play a doubleheader Sunday afternoon beginning at 1:35pm. New Hampshire will send Jesse Litsch (5-1, 0.96) and Kurt Isenberg (1-1, 2.78) to the mound. New Britain will counter with Jesse Floyd (3-4, 4.44) and Brian Forystek (1-1, 4.20). Radio coverage begins at 1:15pm with Mike Murphy on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network (610-AM, Manchester; 930-AM, Rochester; 1540-AM, Exeter).
