Trenton Thunder News Release

(Trenton, NJ)- Chuck Lofgren and three relievers combined on a six-hitter as the Akron Aeros beat the Trenton Thunder, 5-1, on Saturday night. It was the first loss on a "Saturday" by Trenton after starting the year 9-0 on that day of the week.

The Aeros (31-23) took the lead with three runs in the 2nd Inning against Trenton starter Alan Horne. With one out, Horne hit DH Jon Van Every and walked LF Ryan Goleski. A single by Trevor Crowe and a Thunder error plated two runs for the lead. Crowe then scored as he stole 3rd Base and came home on a error by 3B Aarom Baldiris. Trenton (34-19) got a run back in the bottom half on a Noah Hall RBI single.

Akron got five solid innings from starter Chuck Lofgren. Lofgren (5-4) scattered five hits over five innings for the win with three walks and six strikeouts. With a 4-1 lead, Trenton started a rally against Lofgren with a double and a walk in the 6th Inning, but reliever Jim Ed Warden came on to retire the next three batters and end the inning. Jensen Lewis followed with two shutout innings followed by randy Newsom with a scoreless 9th Inning. In all, the Aeros bullpen worked four "no-hit" innings of relief.

Horne (5-3) took the loss for Trenton as he allowed four runs (two earned) in five innings. The Thunder had two hits apiece from 1B Cody Ehkers and C P.J. Pilittere.

The series concludes on Sunday at 1:05 PM. Jason Jones (3-3, 3.35) starts for Trenton against Akron's Joe Ness (2-0, 6.14).
