North Bay Battalion News Release

NORTH BAY, Ont. - Right winger Nick Moutrey of the North Bay Battalion has signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets, the National Hockey League club announced Friday. Terms were not disclosed.

Moutrey, who turns 20 on June 24, was selected by Columbus in the fourth round, 105th overall, of the 2013 NHL Draft.

"I couldn't be more excited," said Moutrey, who's in his fourth Ontario Hockey League season. "It's a dream come true, obviously, and I'm looking forward to it. It's another stepping stone in my career."

As to what the Blue Jackets may have told him to focus on in preparation for turning professional, he noted: "It's always been my first couple of strides, but I'll continue to work on that in the summer. I'll just try to work on a little bit of everything, the hand shot and trying to get bigger and stronger."

Battalion coach Stan Butler said he was pleased for the player.

"I'm happy for him. It's always nice to see a kid work hard and get rewarded."

A six-foot-three, 220-pound resident of Shelburne, Ont., Moutrey has five goals and nine assists for 14 points in 18 games with the Battalion since being acquired in a Jan. 4 trade with the Saginaw Spirit. He had 15 goals and 26 assists for 41 points in 36 games with Saginaw this season.

Moutrey, who served as the Spirit's captain, was taken in the first round, 15th overall of the 2011 OHL Priority Selection from the York Simcoe Express minor midgets. In 253 OHL games, he has 53 goals and 95 assists for 148 points with 222 penalty minutes.

The Battalion acquired Moutrey from Saginaw for goaltender Evan Cormier, three second-round picks in the OHL Priority Selection, in 2015, 2017 and 2019, and a fourth-rounder in 2020. Conditional third- and fourth-round selections in 2018 revert to North Bay with Moutrey's signing.
