Belleville Bulls News Release
SUDBURY, ON - The Belleville Bulls continue their northern road trip on Friday night as they travel to Sudbury to take on the Wolves. The Bulls are looking to avoid back-to-back losses as they fell 3-1 at North Bay Memorial Gardens on Thursday night while Sudbury is hoping to snap a six game losing skid. Puck drop from the Sudbruy Community Arena is set for 7:30.
On Tuesday the visiting Niagara IceDogs took advantage of a four goal second period and defeated the Wolves 7-1. Right-winger Pavel Jenys was the lone goal scorer for the Wolves. Danny Desrochers and Charley Graaskamp added the assists. Beauport, Quebec native Samuel Tanguay made 31 saves in the loss.
1996-born winger Matt Schmalz leads the club in scoring as he has potted 24 goals and handed out 16 assists in 61 games played. Jenys, the Czech Republic product, has also been a key contributor offensively scoring 14 goals and adding 28 assists in 56 games played. Sophomore netminder Troy Timpano has been a consistent starter between the pipes for Wolves. He owns a .879 save percentage and a 4.77 goals against average.
"They can certainly catch fire and some of their wins have been outstanding wins this year. There is good player personnel there, they are getting stronger every day and we have to go in and fight." said Assistant Coach Jake Grimes on Friday morning.
The Bulls kicked off back-to-back road games with a 3-1 loss to the North Bay Battalion on Thursday night. The Troops opened up the scoring just over five minutes in and never looked back. Rookie forward Trent Fox scored the only goal for the Bulls with just 13 seconds left in regulation. Connor Hicks earned the start and made 29 saves in the loss.
"We lacked a little bit of offensive jam last night. We didn't create a lot of scoring chances and just needed to be a little bit grittier all over the ice against a big strong team," Grimes said about the loss.
Defenceman Jordan Subban returns to the line up and continues to lead the team with 24 goals and 23 helpers in 57 games played. Over age winger Brett Gustavsen has pitched in with 18 goals and 19 assists in 60 games played. Expect Toronto native Charlie Graham to get the start in Sudbury.
