BRAMPTON, Ont. - Defenceman John de Gray will represent the Brampton Battalion in the Ontario Hockey League's 2007 All-Star Classic, it was announced Tuesday.

de Gray is one of six defencemen on the 20-man Eastern Conference roster that will meet the Western Conference all-stars at Saginaw, Mich., on Jan. 31.

de Gray was the Battalion's first-round pick, sixth overall, in the 2004 OHL Priority Selection. The six-foot-four, 209-pound resident of Markham, Ont., had two goals and eight assists for 10 points in 53 games as a rookie. de Gray earned 10 assists in 68 games in 2005-06 and has recorded 11 points, including one goal, in 43 games this season.

"It's pretty flattering to be named to a team like this," said de Gray, a third-round pick of the Anaheim Ducks in the National Hockey League's Entry Draft last June.

"I'm excited to get a chance to play in this game. It's something I was aiming for. I thought I've had a pretty successful season so far, and our team has picked it up lately, too."

The Eastern Conference team was selected by Stan Butler, the Battalion's director of hockey operations and head coach, and Dave Brown, general manager of the Mississauga IceDogs.

"John was a worthy candidate," said Butler. "Every team has to be represented and, with our team not getting off to the start we wanted, we were going to have only one player. When we looked at the players we had and what needs we had, John was the guy who was chosen."

The Eastern Conference team will be coached by Marty Williamson of the Barrie Colts.

The game can be seen live on Rogers Sportsnet at 7 p.m.
