
Bats Win With Three Run Homer, 4-1

LOUISVILLE, KY - A three-run homer by Jerry Hairston, Jr. in the fifth inning with two- on and two-out gave the Louisville Bats a 4-1 victory over the Norfolk Tides.
In his first at-bat of the season Kevin Barker gave the Bats an early 1-0 lead with single to centerfield that scored Jolbert Cabrera. Cabrera reached base on a throwing error by shortstop Scott Moore.
In the top of the third inning the Bats pitching and defense continued to shut down the Tides with a strikeout by Belisle and one of two inning ending double plays.
With two outs in the fifth Chris Dickerson singled on a line drive to right field and then stole second. With first base open Andy Green drew a walk. Hairston, Jr. then homered on the first pitch to deep left field, to make the score 4-0.
The Tides scored their lone run in the sixth when they reeled off four straight two-out singles off of Belisle.
Matt Belisle (1-0, 1.29) was flawless in his third rehab start, his first with the Bats, giving up one run in seven innings while striking out six.
Manager Rick Sweet turned to his bullpen in the eighth to close the game. Scott Sauerbeck pitched one inning, allowing no runs, walking one and striking out one. Marcus McBeth pitched a perfect ninth inning, striking out one, and earned his second save of the season.
Jon Leicester (0-1, 2.92) allowed four runs, three of which were earned, three hits and struck out six in the loss.
Bat's lefty Matt Maloney (0-0, 7.88) will face right-handed pitcher Radhames Liz (0-1, 7.45) in the second game of a four-game series. First pitch of tomorrow's game is at 7:05 pm.
