Bats Thrive, Bullpen Holds In Keys Win

The Keys peppered Winston-Salem pitching with 14 hits and held on through a furious attempted rally to hold on to a 6-4 win at Gene Hooks Field Tuesday afternoon.

Frederick (9-11) launched three home runs in the contest and the long ball put them on top early.

Keys C Wally Crancer sent a line drive over the right field wall to put the Keys atop 1-0 in the second inning. The solo drive was the second for Crancer in six games played.

In the following inning, LF Kraig Binick hit a two-run home run to left field to up the Keys lead to 3-0. The home run was Binick's third of the season as he went 3-for-5 with three RBI's on the day.

With starter Tim Bascom (2-2) set to depart after a solid six-inning effort, DH Chris Vinyard homered for the third time in as many days putting the Keys up 6-2.

But Winston-Salem would rally scoring twice in the seventh inning and threatening in the eighth.

Trailing 6-4 in the ninth inning, Keys closer Luis Lebron loaded the bases with back-to-back walks with one down. Lebron rallied to strikeout SS Greg Paiml and 1> Jimmy Gallagher in succession to end the game. It was his third save in four attempts this year.

The Keys try to take the series Wednesday afternoon at Noon with John Mariotti on the hill. Airtime on the Keys Baseball Network is set for 11:40 a.m. with The UPS Store Pre-Game Show.

Frederick will return home to begin its longest homestand of the 2009 season, Monday May 4th at 7:00 p.m. against Winston-Salem. The 11-game homestand kickstarts with Kids Eat Free Monday.
