Winston-Salem Dash News Release

Winston-Salem, NC - Frederick continually answered every Winston-Salem (10-10) threat and held on to defeat the Dash 6-4 on Tuesday afternoon at Wake Forest Baseball Park. Keys (9-11) starting pitcher Tim Bascom slowed the Dash bats while Kraig Binick belted a home run and three RBI to help Frederick even the three-game series at a game apiece.

A solo home run by Keys catcher Wally Crancer with two outs in the top of the second inning gave Frederick a 1-0 lead. The Keys used the long ball to extend their advantage when Binick blasted a two-run shot in the third inning to put Frederick in front 3-0.

The Dash got on the board in the bottom of the third when shortstop Grag Paiml delivered a two-out RBI single that scored third baseman Kyle Shelton with Winston-Salem's first run. Frederick bounced back as Binick would add another RBI with a two-out single in the fourth inning to push the Keys lead to 4-1.

Once again, the Dash would reduce their deficit to two in the fifth inning on a Jordan Danks RBI sacrifice fly. Frederick answered as Matthew Tucker lined an RBI single in the sixth inning and Chris Vinyard blasted a solo home run in the seventh for a 6-2 Keys lead.

Dash second baseman Dale Mollenhauer, who finished with a season-high three hits, lined a two-run single of Keys reliever Ryan Ouellette to get Winston-Salem within two at 6-4. The Dash rally would continue in the bottom of the ninth inning when they loaded the bases with one out against Keys closer Luis Lebron. But Paiml and Jimmy Gallagher went down on strikes to end the threat and preserve the win for Frederick. Gallagher went 0-for-5 to snap his hitting streak at 18 games.

Bascom (2-2) tossed a season-high six innings and limited to the Dash to two runs on seven hits to garner the win. Dash starting pitcher Levi Maxwell (0-4) lost his fourth consecutive start after surrendering five runs on ten hits in 5.1 innings of work. Lebron recorded the final four outs to collect his third save of the season.

The Dash will conclude their seven day home stand with the series finale against the Frederick Keys on Tuesday at Wake Forest Baseball Park. The Dash will turn to RHP Johnnie Lowe (1-0, 3.86), while the Keys are expected to start RHP John Mariotti (1-0, 2.30). The first pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. Single-game tickets are available for games at Wake Forest Baseball Park through June 17 and can be purchased online at www.wsdash.com or by calling the Dash office at (336) 714-2287.
