Syracuse Mets News Release

Louisville, KY - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Louisville Bats, 4-2, Wednesday afternoon at Louisville Slugger Field. Matt Skole homered for the Chiefs, but Syracuse dropped its fifth straight game after being swept by the Bats. There was a 17-minute rain delay in the top of the ninth inning before the conclusion of the game.

Louisville (35-31) scored first for the third game in a row. In the third inning, Rafael Lopez walked with one out against A.J. Cole. After a strikeout, Juan Perez reached on an infield single to put runners on first and second with two outs. Carlos Triunfel then hit an 0-2 pitch into left field for an RBI single to give the Bats a 1-0 lead. Scott Schebler continued his great success against the Chiefs next. Schebler tripled for the third game in a row on a ball misplayed in right by Matt den Dekker to push the lead to 3-0.

Syracuse (30-34) answered right back in the top of the fourth. After Brian Goodwin singled off Jon Moscot, Skole drilled his ninth home run of the year over the right field fence to cut the deficit to 3-2.

But the Bats did not stay quiet for long. With one out, Donald Lutz homered to nearly the same spot in right to give the Bats a two-run lead back at 4-2.

The game held at 4-2 until the ninth. Before the first pitch of the inning, the umpires called for the tarp in light rain. After a delay of 17 minutes, the game resumed and Michael Lorenzen struck out the side in the ninth for the save.

The Chiefs return home and will have a day off Thursday before opening a three-game series with the Columbus Clippers Friday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Taylor Hill is scheduled to start for Syracuse opposite former Chief Ross Detwiler for Columbus. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
