Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky- The Louisville Bats secured a 3-2 win over the Syracuse Chiefs Wednesday night at Louisville Slugger Field following a 93-minute rain delay. The Bats took their second in a row against the Syracuse Chiefs.
The Bats won behind their first multi-home run game at home this season with a home run from right fielder Scott Schebler and first baseman Brandon Allen, which was the needed insurance run to secure the win. Schebler's home run extended his hitting streak to eight games and Allen's home run was 198th of his Minor League career. He is currently the active leader.
The Bats added their other run in the second inning when catcher Chris Berset scored on an RBI ground out.
Right-handed pitcher Stephen Johnson (0-3, 4.98) and the bullpen, who had their 23 and two-thirds scoreless inning streak snapped in the sixth, held up their end tonight. Johnson made his first professional start throwing four innings, allowing three hits, one run (earned), and striking out three on 42 pitches, 29 strikes.
Right-handed pitcher Dayan Diaz (3-0, 3.66) was awarded the win, moving him to 3-0 on the year, while right-handed pitcher Jumbo Diaz recorded his 10th save.
Right-handed pitcher Paolo Espino (3-6, 3.50) suffered the loss on the evening for Syracuse after throwing five innings, allowing six hits, three runs (two earned), walking one and striking out six.
Tomorrow's game is set for first pitch at 11:45 am. The Bats look to complete the three-game sweep against Syracuse with right-handed pitcher Jon Moscot (1-3, 7.56) on the mound against right-handed pitcher A.J. Cole (5-2, 4.79).
