Florence Y'alls News Release
FLORENCE, KY - The Florence Y'alls (44-49), presented by Towne Properties, strike down the Gateway Grizzlies 4-2 in an opening series win on Friday night.
Florence plays best when their elite hitting is complimented by solid pitching and that's exactly what we saw tonight. Hunter Mink continues to shine on the mound picking up his second win of the season and his second in a row. Mink fired a season-high six innings allowing just two runs on four hits with three walks and two punchouts. Matt Fernandez followed out of the pen and earned the rare three-inning save, allowing just one hit in a shutout performance.
The Y'alls were fueled by a three-run fifth inning which was capped off by a two-run single from Brian Fuentes. In the sixth, Dalton Davis launched a solo shot to deep left field to make it a 4-1 Florence lead. Davis finished with a 2-for-4 line adding a double and two runs. Stephen Hrustich also had a multi-hit performance with a 2-for-4 line scoring a run.
Florence and Gateway return tomorrow for game two, and Florence looks for the series win. Southpaw, Jonaiker Villalobos makes his last start of the season with gateway's started not announced yet. The first pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. CT at Grizzlies Ballpark.
