Bats Go Silent on Sunday in Reading

The SeaWolves could not get the bats going on Sunday afternoon as they fell to the Reading Fightin Phils 2-1 at First Energy Stadium.

The SeaWolves broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning when Brendan Harris led off with a solo home run off of Fightins starter Zach Eflin for a 1-0 lead. It was the second home run of the season for Harris.

Erie's starter Warwick Saupold was sharp for the fourth straight start but took a no-decision. He tossed five shutout innings, allowing four hits with three walks and a strikeout. He lowered his ERA in four May starts to 1.71.

Reading got to Erie reliever Zach Reininger in the bottom of the sixth inning. Cam Perkins led off the and reached on an error. Brian Pointer doubled home Perkins, tying the game at 1-1. Gabriel Lino followed and singled home Pointer for the go-ahead run.

Eflin (3-3) tossed a gem for Reading going eight innings, allowing a run on four this with a walk and two strikeouts.

Reininger (0-1) took the loss allowing two runs, one earned, on two hits with a walk and no strikeouts in an inning of relief.

The SeaWolves return home Monday night to take on the Richmond Flying Squirrels at 6:35 p.m. It's Buck Night presented by Budweiser & Rocket 101. Fans can enjoy concessions specials of Smith's hot dogs, Pepsi fountain drinks, popcorn and select domestic draft beers for just $1 each.
