Trenton Thunder News Release
After Dan Fiorito's heroics on Saturday night to complete a 5-4 win, the Harrisburg Senators swiped the final game of the four-game series from the Thunder with a 10-4 decision on Sunday afternoon at ARM & HAMMER Park. In a 3:13 affair, the Thunder saw their five-game win streak come to a close.
The Thunder took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first thanks to a pair of errors by the Senators. Eric Jagielo, celebrating his 23rd birthday, drove home a run with a base hit and two more runs came home on Dante Bichette Jr.'s base hit to right later in the inning.
In the fourth, the Senators broke through against Thunder starter Luis Niebla for a five-run frame. Mario Lisson and Shawn Pleffner each brought home a run with singles to end the Double-A debut for Niebla.
Niebla, who retired the first nine batters he faced in the game, left with the bases loaded. Johnny Barbato entered and allowed all three runners to score on a hit by pitch, a walk and a sacrifice fly to give Harrisburg the 5-3 advantage.
The Senators extended their lead with two more runs in the fifth off Barbato and three runs over the seventh and eighth innings off Cesar Vargas.
Gary Sanchez and Jake Cave each went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a walk. Dante Bichette Jr. drove in his 19th and 20th runs, good for the third-highest total on the team.
Sunday was the fourth time that Thunder pitching allowed 10 runs in a game this season, tying a season-high. The staff also surrendered seven walks, the second-highest total in a nine inning game.
Your Thunder will continue their seven-game homestand with a three-game set against the Bowie Baysox (Baltimore Orioles) beginning on Tuesday night at 7:00pm. It's Girls Scout Night and Super Value Tuesday with Kids Eat Free and $1 hot dogs presented by Black Bear Franks. Tickets can be ordered online at Trentonthunder.com/tickets or by phone at 609-394-3300.
