Eflin stifles SeaWolves for series win

Zach Eflin (3-3) turned in his third eight-inning performance for his third win of the season as the Fightin Phils (19-16) defeated the Erie SeaWolves (13-23) 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Eflin allowed just one run off four hits with one walk and two strikeouts.

The only run of the game for Erie came in the top of the fifth inning when Brendan Harris hit a solo-home run to give the SeaWolves a 1-0 lead. The Fightin Phils took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the sixth as Brian Pointer hit a RBI double and Gabriel Lino hit a RBI single off reliever Zac Reininger. SeaWolves starter Warwick Saupold pitched five shutout innings in a no-decision.

Eflin recorded 14 groundouts to seven fly-outs. Nick Hill earned his first save as he struck out two batters in the top of the ninth inning. Aaron Altherr's 12-game hitting streak came to an end on Sunday as he went 0 for 4.

The Fightin Phils continue their home-stand at FirstEnergy Stadium. They will welcome in the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Monday evening. First pitch is at 6:35 pm.
