Rochester Red Wings News Release

The Louisville Bats edged the Red Wings 3-2 Saturday night at Frontier Field, before a season-high crowd of 11,138. The first place Wings maintained a one game lead over Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, who also lost Saturday night.

The series concludes with a 1:35 p.m. game Sunday, with a Knot Hole Kids' Club game, a pre-game concert with Mr. Steve, and kids can run the bases with Spikes and Mittsy after the game. Complete promotions details below....

Left-hander Andrew Albers, who beat the Bats June 3 in Louisville, got a tremendous assist in a scoreless top of the first Saturday. With one out and a runner at first base, Scott Schebler hit a hard groundball that was headed up the middle for a hit. Wings second baseman James Beresford dove to his right to snag the ball, and started a double play with shortstop Wilfredo Tovar.

The second started with another great defensive play from the Wings as Tovar gunned down Steve Selsky trying to stretch a double into a triple. The rest of the inning did not go as smoothly for the Wings. Albers gave up a single followed by an RBI double from Seth Mejias-Brean to give Louisville the early 1-0 lead. That wasn't the end of the rally as another single pushed across the Bats' second run of the game to put Rochester in an early 2-0 hole.

In the bottom half of the second the Wings started a rally with two men out as Logan Schafer lined a single off Bats starter Jon Moscot. Adam Brett Walker followed that up with a ground rule double, giving Rochester a golden opportunity to tie the game. However, the offense couldn't push across any runs and the score remained 2-0.

Albers rebounded from his shaky second inning with a couple of quick innings in the third and fourth. He capped off his strong fourth with his first punchout of the night.

In the bottom of the fourth the Wings looked to get back into the game. Kennys Vargas started the inning with walk number 48 on the season for him, which leads the league. Walker then came up and deposited his second ground rule double of the night over the wall in left, giving the Wings second and third with just one man out in the inning. Carlos Paulino drew a two-out walk of his own, loading the bases for the Wings. Beresford was able to get his team on the board with an infield single, cutting the Louisville lead to 2-1.

The bat wasn't the only thing Walker had working for him in this one, as he made a spectacular diving catch in the fifth inning. This catch paired with an incredible throw from center fielder Eddie Rosario to gun down Rafael Lopez at home to end the inning kept the score 2-1 in favor of the Bats.

In Rochester's half of the fifth Vargas launched his eleventh homer of the season over the bullpen in right to tie the score 2-2.

The score wouldn't remain tied for long as the Bats put together a rally of their own. Selsky ripped a double off Albers and later scored on a two-out single from Mejias-Brean as Louisville regained their lead at 3-2. This would mark the end of the night for Albers. He was replaced by righty D.J. Baxendale, who was making his Triple-A debut. He came in and shut the door, striking out the only batter he faced for his first career Triple-A punchout.

Albers (6-2) finished with a line of 5.2 innings pitched allowing ten hits, three earned runs, and one walk while striking out two batters. He ended up throwing 92 pitches and 61 of them were for strikes.

Moscot (4-3) worked six innings and allowed six hits and two earned runs, with five walks and two strikeouts. He threw 96 pitches, 57 for strikes. Moscot was replaced by Nick Routt in the bottom of the seventh.

Baxendale was impressive in his Wings debut, setting down all seven baters he faced and notching three strikeouts. Marcus Walden pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

The Wings put the tying run on first in the bottom of the ninth, when Paulino singled off Wandy Peralta with one out. A passed ball allowed pinch-runner Stephen Wickens to advance to second base, then Peralta walked Beresford. Polanco struck out, and Tommy Field drew a walk to load the bases for Rosario - who drilled a long fly to left field, but Tony Renda chased it down for the final out. Peralta picked up his second save.

The Bats out-hit the Red Wings 10-7. Beresford extended his hit streak to seven games.

NOTES: Twins INF/OF Miguel Sano played his second game of a rehab assignment from the Twins,, going 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts. Sano played seven innings at third base...Home plate umpire Robert Moreno was forced to leave the game after getting hit in the neck by a foul ball in the sixth inning. Moreno walked off the field, and third base umpire Max Guyll took over behind the plate with Eric Gillam working the bases.
