Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, KY- The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees (50-42) looked to be on the verge of completing a four-game series sweep, however Jesse Gutierrez and the Louisville Bats (49-45) had other ideas. The Bats scored three runs in the eighth inning for a 3-1 comeback win in front of 7,981 fans.
Mark Bellhorn led off the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run to tie the game at 1-1. Gutierrez then hit a pinch-hit RBI single to put the Bats ahead for good. Bellhorn finished the game 1-for-2, while Gutierrez's hit represented his lone at-bat of the evening.
The Yankees managed only five hits in the game. Their lone run came in the third inning after Bats' third baseman Aaron Herr was called for base path interference following a Brett Gardner single.
LHP Bill Bray (1-1, 5.87) picks up the win for Louisville. Bray pitched 1.0 inning, allowing one hit and no runs. Bats' starter Phil Dumatrait pitched 7.0 innings surrendering only one run and four hits while striking out four Scranton/Wilkes-Barre batters.
Matt DeSalvo (6-2, 2.24) gets credited with the loss for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Desalvo went 7.1 innings, allowing three hits and two earned runs, including Bellhorn's game-tying home run.
RHP Elizardo Ramirez (1-1, 3.82) will start Monday night for Louisville, as the Bats welcome the Durham Bulls to town for the first time this season. The two teams split a four-game series at Durham earlier in June. The Bulls will send LHP JP Howell (3-6, 3.93) to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
