Chesapeake Baysox News Release
Despite outstanding work from starter Elih Villanueva and reliever Matt Hobgood,The Baysox could not get their bats going Friday night in Richmond. Bowie mustered just three hits in a 1-0 loss at The Diamond.
Richmond scored the game's lone run in the second inning. Three consecutive singles started the frame. After a popout registered then first out, 2B Blake Miller hit a groundball to third base. Baysox 3B Jason Esposito fired quickly to second for the force but Bowie could not turn two and a run scored. It was all the Flying Squirrels needed.
The Baysox threatened at times but went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Since an RBI-double from OF Glynn Davis in the third inning of the opener, the Baysox have failed to score in 20 consecutive innings.
Bowie's best opportunity came in the sixth inning. After starter Jack Snodgrass was lifted for Stephen Johnson, LF Mike Yastrzemski walked and RF Quincy Latimore singled. But Johnson pulled it together. He struck out three consecutive Baysox hitters to foil the potential rally.
The Baysox continue the series and opening road trip in Richmond on Saturday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with RHP Branden Kline making his Orioles organizational debut for Bowie. Coverage begins 1430wnav.com and the Tune-In Radio App with the Trunnell Law Pre-Game Show.
Opening Night in Bowie will be Thursday, April 16th at 6:35 p.m. as the Baysox host Erie. For tickets, purchase online at baysox.com.
