LAST GAME: The Mets allowed 17 hits and 14 runs en route to a 14-5 loss against the Akron RubberDucks Thursday night at Canal Park. The Binghamton bullpen allowed 11 runs (nine earned) on 10 hits in 3.2 innings pitched. The Mets saw their 4-1 lead slip away in the fifth inning as the RubberDucks scored in each of their last four at-bats. Dustin Lawley hit his first home run of the season and 71st of his career. TJ Rivera chipped in two hits and two RBI.
BINGHAMTON STARTER: RHP Rainy Lara makes his 2015 debut after spending the 2014 season with Binghamton. Lara went 6-4 with a 4.31 ERA in 20 starts last season. The righty earned the win to help the B-Mets stave off elimination in his lone postseason start, 9/6 @ Portland (EDCS, G4). The 24 year-old allowed three runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings pitched in his lone career start against the RubberDucks (4/5/14).
AKRON STARTER: RHP Cody Anderson returns to Akron for his third straight season with the Indians' Double-A affiliate. Last year the Quincy, CA native went 4-11 with a 5.44 ERA in 25 starts with the RubberDucks. In his career, Anderson is 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA in two starts against the Mets. He has a 5.47 ERA in 28 career starts at the Double-A level.
OPENING DAY: The B-Mets are now 14-10 all-time on Opening Day. They have lost their last Opening Days and three of the past four; all against Akron.
STREAK SNAPPED: Thursday's loss ended Binghamton's seven game winning streak against the RubberDucks, dating back to June 9, 2014. The Mets outscored Akron 63-21 during that stretch with a six-run average margin of victory.
SLOW START: The 14 runs allowed Thursday was a Mets opening day record. It was also the highest number of runs allowed by the team surrendered 16 to the New Britain Rock Cats on July 7, 2013, 212 games ago.
GOOD COMPANY: Dustin Lawley became the fourth B-Met to homer on Opening Day in the past 11 years, joining Mike Carp (2008), Lucas Duda (2010) and current teammate Josh Rodriguez (2013), all of whom have MLB experience.
I'M NEW HERE: Two B-Mets made their professional debuts at new positions last night. Playing in his 915th pro game, Josh Rodriguez made his first appearance at first base. Jayce Boyd who spent the first three years of career as a first baseman in the Mets system appeared in left field. Rodriguez did not field a ground ball, while Boyd registered one putout and one assist.
ON THE ROAD: Binghamton went 42-34 away from home last year, including winning their last four postseason road games.
MARGIN OF ERROR: Thursday snapped Binghamton's five game errorless streak (9/5/13 vs. Portland). In addition, the three B-Mets errors were the most in 42 games, when they committed four against New Hampshire (7/31/14).
DOUBLE-A DEBUTS: Three B-Mets made their Double-A debuts last night. Jared King collected a single and a run scored, while Eudy Pina registered one hit and stole a base. Domingo Tapia suffered the loss.
OUT TO DEFEND THE TITLE: The Binghamton Mets are looking to become the first team in nearly ten years to win back-to-back Eastern League titles. The Trenton Thunder last performed the feat, taking home the championship in 2007 and 2008.
NEXT GAME PREVIEW: The B-Mets continue their season-opening series against the Akron RubberDucks on Saturday afternoon at 2:05 PM. RHP Gabriel Ynoa takes the mound against RHP Shawn Morimando.
