Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings News Release
HARLINGEN - Tied at 3 in the bottom of the 12th inning, newcomer Wilson Batista delivered the game-winning RBI on a fielders choice as the WhiteWings walked off winners, 4-3.
With the bases loaded and one out, Batista hit a slow roller up the middle. To end the inning, the Roadrunners tried to turn the double play. They got the out at second, but Batista beat out the throw to first, allowing the runner from third to be safe at the plate to provide the winning run.
It was the second straight night the WhiteWings and Roadrunners went to extra innings. The two teams combined to play for 28 innings in the past two games.
The WhiteWings close out their season series with the Roadrunners finishing 21-8 against their rival from Edinburg.
Wander Perez (1-1) gets the win for the WhiteWings while James Giuletti (0-6) gets the loss.
Tied at 1 entering the bottom of the seventh inning, the WhiteWings churned out two unearned runs to take a 3-1 lead. Wilson Batista came home from third base on an errant throw to the plate, allowing the WhiteWings to take a 2-1 lead. Later, Brandon Decker reached home after the Roadrunners committed a fielding error to score another run.
The Roadrunners responded in the very next inning. RJ Harris hit an RBI single to cut the deficit to one before a passed ball allowed the tying run to score from third.
From there, both teams failed to score a run in the next four innings until Batista's game-winning RBI.
The WhiteWings go on a four-game road trip to face the San Angelo Colts starting on Saturday night. David Cross (3-5, 7.89 ERA) is expected to start for the WhiteWings.
