August 19, 2011 - North American League (NAmL) News Release

(Yuma, AZ) Having just turned 23 years old last month, Kirby Young had exhausted his college eligibility at Cal State Sacramento and was passed over in the MLB Amateur Player Draft in June. This led Young to the Arizona Summer League where he was able to display his talents for a full month in front of professional scouts from Major League Baseball organizations and independent league teams from all over the country. Now, Young becomes the 10th player from this year's Arizona Summer League to sign a professional contract after inking a deal with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

In 45 at-bats during the month-long ASL season for the Long Beach Armada, Young collected 18 hits for an even .400 average. The 6'3, 190 pound shortstop also drove in 12 runs and hit 3 triples and 1 homerun, making no errors during his time in the ASL. Currently playing for the Angels' rookie league team in the Arizona League, Young is batting an impressive .368, having collected 7 hits in 19 at-bats thus far. In 6 games for the Angels, Young has driven in 6 runs and has 3 doubles along with 1 triple.
